DAVY'S ORDEAL (Feb 2025)
This post is about Davy, a poor starved and emaciated young cat who has come into our care.
On receiving him and going through the usual processes of settling him in his den, we noticed that he was struggling to walk and was clearly in a lot of pain. On closer inspection it became clear that he had an abscess in a very strange place on his leg.
We quickly took him to our vets, and were horrified to discover that he had sores and deep marks on all four of his legs, indicative of having been tied or trapped. This type of injury is incredibly upsetting and sickens us; cats generally have abscesses from cat bites on the face, neck and shoulder area, and dog bites are nearly always over their back. If he had one injured leg, another conclusion could be arrived at, but sadly, such similar injuries low down on all four legs makes his suffering unfortunately all too clear.
We have of course begun the task of helping Davy heal from his injuries, and from whatever terrible ordeal he has suffered. We are happy to report that his legs are improving now - as you can see by the photographs.
Because he is so very thin, he has to eat a little and often, whilst his body gets used to food again. He is still very weak, but he is slowly making progress and he is getting plenty of gentle, loving attention from us and from our wonderful team of
volunteers.
Davy is a lovely trusting boy, around 18 months old, and he will make a
wonderful pet for one lucky home when he is ready to move on – although that is a long way off yet.
We will post updates on Davy’s progress as he improves.
Cats are good at hiding pain and hunger as this is a survival instinct, but If you see a cat in need, turning up at your door, spending time around your home or struggling out in the open, please don’t turn away because your kind intervention could be their last chance of survival.
Davy’s struggle was noticed and brought to our attention, essentially saving his life.
UPDATE ON DAVY'S PROGRESS (MARCH 2025)
We are so happy that Davy is making steady progress. His legs are healing well and he is slowly putting on weight.
He is loving all the kind attention he is getting, plenty of fuss, tasty food and he really enjoys his cosy den and comfy bed.
All these things are helping him to overcome his ordeal, get well, and be ready to start his life afresh with people who will love and take good care of him. You can see from his latest photographs that he is coming along beautifully.
He still has a way to go, but he is on the right track.
